Technology has made operating a relatively large yacht easy with powered winches and push button sail handling systems. The navigator's job has been made much easier too with screen based GPS plotters taking the stress out of making an accurate landfall with confidence and in safety.
Communications have improved dramatically in recent years with satellite telephone and other systems enabling many owners to continue to keep an eye on business via voice and email while cruising long distance. There are obvious safety advantages with reliable, straightforward communications being available.
