Philip and Megan are a dynamic and welcoming duo that will make you feel relaxed and at ease. They are both passionate about hospitality and sailing and share their love for the Caribbean, as well as the intriguing BVI history and culture. Philip and Megan both hail from sunny South Africa, and are a hard working and professional team with a flair for water sports and fun.
Captain Philip was born in Cape Town and raised on South African waters and has been sailing since the age of six. He holds a 200 ton yacht master and is a trained diesel mechanic. Philip has sailed in numerous prestigious yacht regattas in and around South Africa, and completed his first Atlantic crossing at the age of 15, from Cape Town to St. Maarten. An avid fisherman and part-time water ski instructor, Philip has also skippered numerous sports and fishing recreational vessels and being on the water is his passion. He has spent the past three years in the Mediterranean as a Captain in the private yacht industry. With his experience of sailing since childhood, strong work ethic and good eye for detail, as well as his contagious love of water sports, he ensures that all guests have the most pleasant and safe journey on the water.
Megan Ward, First Mate of On Liberty, has a great interest in food and nutrition which lead her to earn a BSc in Dietetics at Stellenbosch University in the wine region of South Africa in 2006. Megan has worked as a Registered Dietitian in the National Health Systems of bothSouth Africa and the United Kingdom in addition to having her own private practice.
Megan first got the opportunity to sail at University in 2003 and then sailed at Algoa Bay Yacht Club. Crossing the Atlantic in 2008 in a 37 Elan and then sailing through the Windward Islands of the Caribbean inspired Megan to pursue a career in the yachting industry.On Liberty gives Megan the opportunity to combine her interest in cooking, hospitality and her love of the sea. Megan is a strong swimmer and enjoys snorkelling, fishing and hiking.
